Amazing Sunpower panels, world class service and outstanding experience. We initially installed 43 panels a year ago (1/2021) and then added an additional 12 panels several months later. We have generated so much energy and the savings keep coming.Kyle Solomon is the reason we started with Empower, and keep recommending it to our friends. There are a lot of solar companies out there and you guys made the experience as comfortable and reassuring as possible. And you were mindful with our request to get it installed ASAP.IF YOU'RE GOING TO INSTALL SOLAR PANELS- GET THEM ALL INSTALLED IN ONE SHOT. DON'T UNDERSHOOT THE NUMBER AND ADD PANELS LATER. The only criticism I can give is that when they came to install the additional 12 panels-- they put too many panels on 1 string so the breaker kept going off-- leaving us with days to weeks without production on multiple panels. It took 6 site visits over 3 months (May-July 2021) to trouble shoot out which string was overloaded and to fix the problem.Overall, we felt not only did we get the most reliable solar panels in the market; the buying/installing experience was equal in caliber to the reputation of the solar panels. EmPower was nothing but excellent in every aspect of my having gone solar. My sales representative/department provided answers to any and all questions I had about moving to solar and what was involved each step of the way. She was also very flexible, patient, and understanding and stayed with me as a changed my mind on various parts of the project. In addition, my project manager kept in touch with me and updated me during each step of review, approval, and scheduling the installation. The best part of it all was that the installation went smoothly and quickly. The complete system was up in less than two days and actually running (producing electricity) midway through the second day of installation. Empower handled the entire design, permitting, and town review process from beginning to end. Very important to know is that their components, from the panels themselves to the support structure or perhaps the best on the market and, best of all, the system works exactly as described and promised. It’s a beautiful beautiful thing to see these panels run my house and build up credits just about every day since it’s been installed. I highly recommend EmPower as the company to consider for your solar installation. The payback in my case will be between six and seven years at the most.

This is a followup review from my original installation a few years ago. We installed solar panels with Empower Solar. It seemed like a good idea at the time and Empower did a superb job at every step of the installation. From Mat Layton's first visit where he explained everything and then checked out our electric panel to the final post-installation inspection by NYC, they really made everything so smooth.Fast forward post-pandemic, and 2020 saw us using 27% more electricity due to online schooling, to work from home to watching movies at home. Even with all that our solar panels still covered ~80% of our electricity. I'm happier than ever with the decision to go solar, and with Empower Solar. Thanks guys!

I selected EmPower primarily because of the way Matthew approached me and my project. He is knowledgeable, professionals and was patient enough to run through several scenarios with me.As someone who works in the design & construction process, I was also extremely impressed with EmPower's design and permitting teams. All along the way, a dedicated Project Manager kept me appraised and was available for any question I had.The Installation was done in less than 2 days and the team was courteous, knowledgeable, clean and most important in these Covid days, very very safe.I have posted some progress photos of the installation. I had my system installed in October 2020. Let me start out by saying I did not pick empower solar because of there reviews. I picked them because of there products. I also choose empower to do my mother in-laws solar project. So let me start off with my sales rep. Scott. He was great he answered all my questions and it took a while to finally build the right system for both projects. Unfortunately what was written down on paper in regards to the federal and tax credits were a lie. It was all a sales tactic to get you to sign I did not receive the amount that was told to me by Scott. So now I have till June to pay the $23,000 or it will get rolled over into my loan. I am not getting that back from my taxes. I encourage anyone who’s looking to go solar to first talk to your tax guy. Now my next issue with this company was my project manager Georgia she was horrible. She had a lack for communication every time I had to call her to find out what was going on and when I finally go in touch with her it sounded like she just woke up. Everyone was working form home and it was like they were talking in there bed. My solar project was gonna be 29 panels originally but I had my roof redone and I moved somethings around. So I asked Georgia to setup a droid to remeasure my roof to see if I can get 30 panels she said the they will use Google Maps to look at my roof. I tried to explain to her that my roof is new and Google Maps is old it’s not updated after a week of trying to convince her she finally had the droid come out and after measuring they confirmed I can fit 30 panels. Now the paperwork had to be updated because I signed for 29 panels and wasted over a week try to convince Georgia to measure the roof. Then it was just a lot of back a forth with her and she was not very attentive. Then the install team came and put up the unit so far I have no issues with the install team. That’s why I gave the one star. Then my system was up and running but I had an issue with the pvs6 unit it was dropping the WiFi signal. I dealt with Jose for like 3 months trying to figure this out it was very frustrating finally he sent someone to troubleshoot it didn’t work. Then again someone came out and the changed the unit now the WiFi signal was good but I couldn’t see the amount of usage on the app. I spoke to jose he said he had to contact sunpower but It would take time cause he’s involved in an audit. I waited and waited and waited and nothing. First of all you’re audit is not my problem. My problem is my system I’m still a customer and I should come first. I spoke to the supervisor of that department and the issue was fixed in a day. Unbelievable that that’s all it took to fix the issue. Now I come to the permit closing department. My project was a little involved so I thought I was looking to get a little personal touch with closing my permit. They assigned me some guy again working from home that seemed sleeping when I spoke to him. When I tried talking to him to tell him what was going on he acted like I was bothering him. So I didn’t want to deal with this guy. I dealt with the supervisor Rory. He was great he answered all the questions and we learned that the paperwork the closing department had were wrong cause they never updated the amount of panels on the paperwork so that was a setback. But other then that Rory was great that’s why they got 2 stars. So based on my experience it is rediculouse to me that I have to deal with a supervisor to get things done over there. And I’m still trying to get the $500 friends and family check from them since November. I can’t believe what an unorganized business this is. I wouldn’t recommend this company

First I will give credit where it is due. Many teams did a fantastic job. Site plans, visits, the permitting process & close out process; these teams were great.TL;DR of my rating: it is due to lack of communication when it mattered, and the wasted time that ensued for the months following.The reason for my rating is the complete breakdown in communication from the Project Management team when we relied on them. After 7.5 months of waiting for an installation (when we were told 3 months), we were finally scheduled. We cleared our schedules to be available to the team. Then, on the day of installation, no one showed up.I called and kept getting transferred to the general voicemail because no one answered. I sent emails, only to receive an Out of Office response from our project manager. The out of office response directed me to a general mailbox, rather than a specific person. Finally a few hours after we expected installation to begin, we were told that our panels were backordered, and we’d be re-scheduled when panels arrived.The problem with this last minute change was the complete disregard for our time, schedules, and the lack of basic respect we were shown. Before our Project Manager went on vacation, he failed to let us know about the change in installation date. However because we still expected an installation to be ongoing, we were up earlier, arranged for offsite pet care, arranged for our children to be brought to/picked up from school, all to make ourselves available. All of this was for naught.The other reason we had a problem with this was that no one told the finance company about the delay. When I woke up on the day we were supposed to have our panels installed, I also woke up to loan closing documents. The loan was fully funded and Empower had every scent of the project in their pockets, and I had a payment due date looming without an installation date.When I expressed these frustrations I was told by the Sr. Project Manager that as a courtesy Empower would cover the first payment of our loan (5/9 install, 5/10 payment due date). We accepted this as a show of good faith and a gesture of goodwill in light of Empower’s failure to communicate and we chose to move forward. I was later told the installation date would be moved up a week, which was even better.Our panels were installed. Credit where it is due - the installation team went way beyond my expectations. While they started five hours late on our re-scheduled installation date, this was OK because they were in constant communication with us. Then, when they felt they wouldn’t be able to finish the project on time, they called in a second crew to help them finish. They worked long days to get the job done. I have nothing negative to say about them.When I began to follow up about the reimbursement we were offered (on 5/30, 6/6, 6/28), the Project Management team kept telling me it was in process. On June 7th I was told “The payment is being processed and a check should be going out shortly”.On June 28th, I was told that the reimbursement that I was offered by Empower had been rejected by the finance team. Their reasoning was that the project was eventually installed before the first payment came due.Once again, Empower failed to communicate crucial information in a timely fashion. I was repeatedly told the payment was in process, which was apparently never true. Incidentally our first payment was due 5/10, but our initial rescheduled installation date was 5/9. This date was also “before the payment was due”, so I don’t know why Empower ever offered reimbursement to us if we were always going to be disqualified based on the installation dates. As a reminder for anyone still reading, we never asked for this reimbursement. It was offered to us due to the failures on Empower’s part.If you’re looking for a solar company, Empower is great when everything goes right. However the better measure of a good company is how they respond when things go wrong. Empower failed.

I wanted to share my experience with Empower solar to just provide some perspective. You may not have the same experience but I felt the need to share.I decided to go with Empower after months of research on various companies and the known quality of Sunpower products.I would strongly recommend doing most of the "numbers" and "facts" talk through text or email as there were several mistakes and incorrect statements made that I later had proof to provide. Kyle was professional and returned calls/texts quickly, however he made several mistakes in the process such as giving me the wrong information of the panel efficiency and details (I knew based on my own research) and later on gave me an incorrect payment schedule. This almost ruined the deal early on as I was told by Kyle that my initial deposit would be 30% of what I owed. When I received my first "milestone" payment from the company they were asking for 60% and without that they would not start the next phase. Initially I was told nothing can be done and without the 60% down payment my project would be cancelled. After providing proof (from text messages) that Kyle had stated numerous times my down payment would be 30%, the company worked with me. To Kyle's credit he owned up to the mistake and did what he could to fix it.At this point I asked Kyle if he can have the engineering dept complete their structural/roof stress analysis because this will ultimately determine if my roof was able to support the solar system. In my opinion this is the most important part of the process. I was told not to worry as it is rare for a roof to fail the analysis and if it does there are easy ways to fix it but this had to be done later on.The next phase they say is quick and easy however it was anything but. You get contacted by another sales person, get inundated with emails, have to fill out a series of paperwork, upload pictures, file for a loan (unless you are paying all in cash), make your downpayment and speak with a representative from the loan department all while getting daily reminder emails that you have an outstanding item that needs to be complete otherwise your project cannot move forward. This was a little overwhelming as it all came in at once with little guidance.Then another person PM (project manager) calls to set up a drone analysis of your roof and then puts you in contact with yet another person, the engineer coordinator. To complete the structural/stress analysis I had to leave work to meet with someone at my home. I was told that the head engineer Kevin would be the one completing the analysis however a young kid arrived. He was very nice, however he was newer to the company (his admission) and it was obvious as he did not seem confident in the work he was completing. To make this more frustrating I get a call a week later that they needed to send an engineer back to get more measurements because some were missed and they needed to verify spacing. So I had to leave work early yet again and Kevin personally told me he would meet me at my house this time to "get it right" and again Kevin did not show up but instead another person did (he did a nice job and seemed confident in his work).I had to reach out the project manager to follow up and was told that unfortunately my roof failed the structure analysis and the only way I could move forward is to pay between 5k-10k to support the roof.The 1 star is not because my roof failed (I am appreciative that they company was thorough and would not want to put my house and family at risk) but it is due to the large waste of my time having all of these conversations, making a down payment, having my credit checked, filling out all of this paper work etc. when a structural analysis could have determined my roof was not sufficient early in this process.I did ask to speak with a supervisor/manager and to her credit she called me right away to discuss the issue and my frustration in this process.

I chose EmPower as they had a supposed good reputation for customer care. When I first engaged with them they where quick to respond with a quote. However, their follow up has been appalling. Their sales person (Cam Kelly) promised to follow up with a revised quote for a canopy system. He consequently went away for two weeks without informing me (or setting an out of office reply). When he got back, he apologized and promised a quote that day or the following day at the latest. After a few days of not receiving it, I followed up again and have heard nothing. He left no direct number and when I call the company, he’s not in the system. When I try to call the receptionist, nobody picks up (I’ve tried multiple times). If this is how they treat eager, paying customers I dread to think what their after sales follow up is like.

After I pay the loan off, I will only pay the connection fee to the grid. I had a problem with something in one of the boxes mounted to the house. I called and the issue was fixed.

I was very pleased with the entire process. The communication all along was key and made us less worried about this whole experience. From Kyle our salesperson who was patient with all the details we requested, to Byron who did his best to move our installation date forward to accommodate our travel plans and finally to the crew who came to install the system for us. I am glad that I chose Empower to go solar! The team just made everything so easy and smooth! It was not an easy work to go solar for my house due to the irregular shape of the roof with a lot skylight windows and the trenching work to put more panels to my garage as well. I just had a 13kW system installed by EmPower. I was extremely impressed with the entire process from start to finish- sales, planning, and the installation itself. Everything was incredibly streamlined. I shouldn't have mentioned the "planning" stage because I literally don't think I did anything at all. Everyone was very helpful, and took their time explaining the nitty gritty details. Overall it was a great experience and I'm very happy with the system. I also signed up for their new community solar project in Selden, so when I'm not powered by my Empower solar system, I'll be getting power from community solar.

I just had Solar installed on my home. I was very skeptical and unsure about it so I did my homework first. I also asked friends and other customers that have had solar installed on their homes. I didn't want to go in clueless so I wouldn't be taken advantage of. I had a few estimates from different companies and I decided on Empower Solar (Sunpower Panels).

From the beginning my consultant was Beth Austin, she presented it so clearly and answered my every question even my tough skeptical questions. She even told me to list whatever questions I had. When I would text or e-mail her with a question she would get back to me as soon as she could and answered it. The install went smoothly and the crew was safe and wore their masks for all our safety. Dean, the project foreman walked me through all of it including the structure part and the tech parts. Byron, the project manager corresponded with me prior to install so I was ready on my end. I learned so much about solar and Empower made me feel that I made the right decision to install solar on my home. I'm excited for my first "0" electric bill. 😁

WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! Avoid EmPower Solar and save yourself extreme frustration and please go with another company. Prepare to be treated like a transaction with ZERO customer service. If I can give less than a 1-star rating I would.

The last 5 months of signing on with EmPower has been a tremendous disappointment and mentally draining. As a customer/client I wouldn't want this experience for anyone but I have reached a breaking point where I can no longer feel confident EmPower will deliver on what was promised in the original contract agreement. I was never told upfront that this may be a 6-month process. I had a number of other highly qualified vendors that I was considering and decided to take a leap of faith and signed on with EmPower expecting professional service and the project being completed in a timely manner.

My family made a $40K commitment that has now extended into a 5-month process from hell. I am made to feel like I am held captive to supply chain delays with no clear ETA for parts delivery. I have been patient and willing to be empathetic with supply chain issues but receiving an email on 10/11/2022 from the Sr. Project Manager - Alexandra Buckley informing me that we were still 2-3 weeks out on the supply of M425's and for me to consider a change to M420's with less efficiency was too much for me to take.

Sadly, I am no longer excited about going solar powered for my residential needs. I will NOT recommend EmPower to anyone I know. If I cannot get the materials agreed upon in our original contact M425's within the next 2-3 weeks and installation begins I am no longer interested in continuing with my contractual agreement with EmPower.

After 5 months, I am still waiting for the panels to arrive and be installed.

Do now use EmPower solar. I used EmPower for my solar panels 11 yrs ago and everything was good until I needed to put a new roof. What I paid for roof was almost the same that paid to Empower to remove and reinstall the panels. After that the system constantly shows that I am producing 0 energy. I was reaching out to EmPower on multiple occasions and yesterday I got my answer, since it’s been over 10 yrs post installation and I can’t prove it worked before I put new roof ( it did), now I have to pay to have it fix.

I’ve never regretted doing business with a company like I have with Empower solar. After having our system for several years now I can honestly say they do not stand behind their customers like they claim.
After signing our contract to install our system we got lost in they system within their office. Never received any updates unless I called looking for them. They claimed it was the town that wouldn’t issue the permit but I called the town and the permit wasn’t even applied for. After 8 months of getting the run around I finally get an installation date.
Have to say the installation crew were great. Very professional and worked very hard. They wrapped up and I couldn’t be happier. Now I’m back to dealing with the office. Another 2 1/2 weeks of run around before they say I can go live.
FINALLY we’re live. They claimed that if I ever had a problem with my system they would call me in case I didn’t see or realize it was a problem because they monitor it as well. HUGE lie. One day walking past the inverter I hit the button to check on it and it’s in error state. Thought it must’ve been recent because Empower said they call me if I had an issue. I find out my system was in that state from April to the end of July. Prime production months and I’m producing ZERO. No email, no phone call or notification of any kind. I get that resolved and hope all is well.
Now fast forward 2 years of having the system and we come home to a massive leak in our ceiling. I track it down to a lag bolt that missed the rafter, was removed but never sealed. Water pouring out of a ceiling fan. I call and they take care of it.
Now today, 3/8/21, I have Empower back at my house for a 2nd roof leak 8” from the previous leak. I tracked that down to a nail removed in that area. Was it removed for installation and never leaked? Was it removed when they did the previous repair? I don’t know because I can’t remove the panels to inspect my roof. When the system was installed I was informed if I attempted to remove a panel I could void my warranty. Technicians went up and checked it out. Claimed they didn’t see anything and couldn’t duplicate the leak but installed flashing in that area just in case. 2 hours after they leave I get a bill for that service call for $342.10. I’m being billed to fix a 2nd leak I have from a solar system installed by Empower.
I’ve never dealt with a company that made so many claims but failed to meet almost all of them on a $42,000 system. If I could transfer my warranty to another company I would in a minute.
